Below is an extract for organisations who wish to make a proposal to hold CPD courses and be approved by the Office of Fair Trading (the OFT).

Method: <Specify whether this CPD session will be delivered to students in a classroom setting, online, as a recording, or any combination of these. This is expected to vary depending on the provider’s own resources and the provider’s assessment of what best suits both the content and attendees.>

You do not have to a member of an organisation, and can do the CPD courses once approved and published by the OFT in a classroom setting, online, as a recording or a combination. The OFT will update their website and the industry once further details are known prior to June 6 commencement.

CPD update from the OFT - current from 13th February 2025. 

Mandatory continuing professional development (CPD) for Queensland property professionals will begin on 6 June 2025.

Under the new rules, you must complete 2 approved CPD sessions each year to keep your licence or registration. You must do this if you're a:

  • real estate agent
  • real estate salesperson (including property managers)
  • real property auctioneer
  • resident letting agent.

Exemptions

You don't need to complete CPD training if:

  • your licence was first issued less than 12 months ago—you only need to start CPD 12 months after your licence was first issued
  • your licence was deactivated for most of your CPD year
  • you hold a limited real estate agent licence for affordable housing or for business letting
  • you represent public sector agencies or you're an official with a licence under the Property Occupations Act 2014.

You can also apply for an exemption for any given year if you couldn't complete your CPD due to exceptional circumstances. To apply, you must provide evidence of the exceptional circumstances with your application to renew or restore your licence or registration.

Exceptional circumstances are both unforeseeable and unavoidable. Failing to plan or manage your time is not considered an exceptional circumstance.

We'll publish further guidance about exceptional circumstances before the requirement begins.

Your CPD year

Your CPD year is based on the date your licence or registration was issued. This means your CPD year is specific to you.

Any CPD you complete before your first CPD year starts won't count towards your mandatory requirements.

Approved CPD sessions

Only the approved CPD sessions listed on this page will count towards your 2 mandatory CPD sessions.

You can choose to complete:

  • a Type 1 session and a Type 2 session

or

  • 2 of the Type 1 sessions.

Type 1 CPD sessions

Type 1 sessions are designed to promote and improve core skills.

A Type 1 session is either:

  • an accredited unit of competency delivered by a registered training organisation (RTO) in the following qualifications
    • CPP40521 Certificate IV in Strata Community Management
    • CPP41419 Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice
    • CPP51122 Diploma of Property (Agency Management)
  • an approved, condensed 'CPD version' of 1 of the above units delivered by an RTO or industry body with at least 2 years' experience training the property sector or a government department.

We'll publish a list of approved Type 1 sessions on this page before the CPD requirement begins.

Type 2 CPD sessions

Type 2 sessions are designed to promote and improve industry-relevant skills. They aren't based on the property training package units of competency.

We'll publish a list of approved Type 2 sessions on this page before the CPD requirement begins.

Proof of completion

CPD providers must provide you with proof of completion, such as a certificate or statement of attainment.

You must keep the proof-of-completion document for 5 years and produce it to Office of Fair Trading (OFT) inspectors on request.

Information for CPD providers

We are currently accepting submissions for CPD sessions from eligible organisations interested in delivering CPD.

If you want to provide CPD sessions you must lodge a CPD session proposal with OFT for approval.

A CPD advisory panel will consider CPD session proposals and recommend appropriate sessions to OFT for approval.

  • Australian Livestock and Property Agents Association (industry)
  • Australian Residential Accommodation Managers Association (industry)
  • Build Skills Australia (registered training organisation)
  • Real Estate Institute of Queensland (industry)
  • Tenants Queensland (community)

Panel membership will be renewed annually and is subject to change.

The advisory panel is currently considering the CPD sessions to be approved for the first year.

5th December 2024 - Mandatory professional development for the property industry

Mandatory continuous professional development (CPD) for Queensland property professionals will begin on 6 June 2025. CPD cannot be completed before that date.  The following individuals must complete approved CPD training each CPD year to maintain their licence or registration:

  • real estate agents
  • real estate salespersons (including property managers)
  • real property auctioneers

CPD provider session approvals now open

CPD sessions may only be provided by eligible organisations that have had sessions approved by the Office of Fair Trading.

To apply to have a CPD session approved, you must lodge a CPD session proposal.

We will evaluate and select proposed sessions with the CPD Advisory Panel.
